Smoothcomp will continue to operate under its own name, with its current team, product, and roadmap in place.
Smoothcomp’s founders — Ricard Carneborn (Chief Sales Officer), Martin Varghult (Chief Designer), and Martin Janson (CEO) — continue in their roles as part of the new company. The change brings no immediate impact to organizers, academies, or athletes using the platform: existing events, registrations, and integrations continue to operate as before.

STENUNGSUND, Sweden, and AUSTIN, Texas –
Founders remain closely involved as the platform expands into club and academy management through Gymdesk, with a live product integration and two new apps launching October 6, 2026
Smoothcomp AB, the competition management platform used by 40,000 active academies worldwide in combat sports, with more than 2.5 million accounts created since its start, today announced that it has become part of the Gymdesk family. Gymdesk, operated by Martial Arts on Rails, LLC and backed by Five Elms Capital, provides management software to martial arts and fitness academies globally.
Smoothcomp will continue to operate under its own name, with its current team, product, and roadmap in place. Smoothcomp’s founders — Martin Janson (CEO), Martin Varghult (Chief Designer), and Ricard Carneborn (Chief Sales Officer) — continue in their roles as part of the new company. The change brings no immediate impact to organizers, academies, or athletes using the platform: existing events, registrations, and integrations continue to operate as before.
Smoothcomp and Gymdesk are now one company. This gives Smoothcomp access to additional capital and operational resources, and is expected to support continued investment in the product roadmap, including ongoing work on streaming and broadcast capabilities and Smoothcomp’s account and identity infrastructure for athletes and organizers.
The two companies’ offerings are complementary. Smoothcomp has focused on tournament and event management, while club and academy management — day-to-day operations for the gyms themselves — has not been a core part of its product. Gymdesk is an established platform in that area. Combining the two closes a gap in what Smoothcomp has offered its customers to date.
The first product of the combination also launches October 6: an integration connecting academy and athlete accounts between Smoothcomp and Gymdesk, bringing together Gymdesk’s training records and Smoothcomp’s competition records. Gymdesk customers will be able to manage and market competitions to their members directly from the platform they already use to run their academy.
Independently of the integration, Smoothcomp is releasing an updated interface for athlete and academy profile pages, timed to the same launch.
Also launching October 6, both companies are releasing new apps. Smoothcomp is launching Smoothrecorder, which lets athletes record their matches with graphical overlays pulled live from the competition system and link the resulting clips directly to their athlete profile. Gymdesk is launching Coach Companion, built to help coaches plan and manage their coaching schedule during live Smoothcomp events.
“Our mission hasn’t changed: we’re still building the world’s best tournament platform, and we remain closely involved in doing that. Joining Gymdesk gives us the resources of a capital-strong parent company, and it closes a gap we’ve had on the club management side. This isn’t about becoming a different company — it’s about being able to build faster, with a strong partner covering the part of the platform we hadn’t built ourselves.”
“Smoothcomp is where the sport competes. Connecting it to the system where gyms train gives coaches the full picture of every athlete for the first time, and it’s the foundation for everything we build next.”
Both companies stated that the transition has been structured to be uneventful for existing customers: no action is required from organizers or athletes, and current pricing and terms remain unchanged at this time. Financial terms of the transaction are not being disclosed.
